Crete Suprprises With Being Under Never-Ending Construction

When I arrived in Crete I was expecting to see something like on the first pic all around. What I found besides the great nature, amazing food, to-die-for beaches, fancy hotels and tourist areas were empty half-built houses, ten-years-old constructions, bumpy roads, no street lights and overall poor infrastructure. This seemed to have roots in something else than the financial crises.
